Cherish Accomplished Models
Those that have taught us. Those that we look up to. Those that we have, in admiration, learned from and sculpted our lives to be more like. Those that have made an impression onto how we think about and navigate life. Those who have impacted our tone of voice and how we speak. Those that have impacted how we see phenomena and possibility. Honoring these people feels like the right first step.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my greatest influences and inspirations. My mentors as well as those that are more at a celebrity status whose way of navigating the world has been an inspiration and a learning for me.
It feels important to begin writing about these people and sharing their stories - even broadly and maybe even misinformed - as they influence me and my path, and I think provide great models for thriving.
Quick bios on these folks in case you want to navigate directly to those posts:
Matthew Morgan / Modern Day Promoter, founder of AFROPUNK
his vision and commitment to the vision is an inspiration. goodness as foundation with loud/unabashed expression. always being willing to change to do what’s right. basing what’s “right” on what has the greatest good impact. commitment to a definitive look. protecting the brand aesthetic. seeing goodness. being adept and joyful within chaos. chaos and change having no effect on decision making.
Alex Hormozi
Business Icon. Fitness Icon. His approach is so exact and honest. His commitment to truth telling to himself and truth telling in his interviews and writings is refreshing and profound.
Martha Stewart
undeniable brilliant business person who based it all on what she loved and sharing her art and a creative, delight-driven approach with the world.
Trey Anastasio
figure head of PHISH. the business set up of PHISH and how it took care of its employees first. The dreaming from traditional venues to festivals which became a template and a model that was adopted by the many of the biggest shows in the USA. The musical Gamehenge and its roll out and actualization over time. The commitment to pranks and gags on the audience which put the artist and the audience in deeper conversation at a macro level. The humor thread.
Chris Crowell
festival concessions matriarch. The best person I’ve ever witnessed in conversation - I’ve never seen anyone get exactly their way every time she engages someone as much as her. Her tone of voice. Her encouragement. Her camp-like approach to leading a team.
Astor Piazolla
bandoneon player who found his sound and his voice after he had turned 60, and toured the world aggressively and made the most gut-wrenching albums and music in the last decade of his life. it’s never too late, in fact now is always the best time to thrive completely.
